Those Summer Nights.....

Summer is finally here! And this year we really are going to fence in the back yard! One Spring evening about a month ago we were relaxing in our yard enjoying the first peaceful campfire of the year, when out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, we sprang from our seats to see what was the matter. And from around the corner of the hillbilly neighbor's garage lurched a derelict off season mall Santa.  As he turned and er....relieved himself....on the side of the garage, we realized he must be the vagrant we had spied living in a camper on the other side of the neighbor's house. We also realized that building the highest fence city codes will allow is now a huge priority. So while we are currently entrenched in the land of building permits and tree removal, I thought I would share an update on our front porch, where we have been spending the majority of our evenings lately.

The porch was the first thing we re-did when we moved in (as in a week later), and at the time it was NOT a place you'd want to hang out with some music and a glass of wine.

We've been adding to it and moving things around for a couple of years now and it is FINALLY exactly how we wanted it to look. We'd been on the hunt for a couple of old ice cream chairs and hadn't really found any that were reasonably priced until once day a couple of weeks ago when Lance came home with THIS.

He got the pair for $15!!! I was almost as excited as I was the time he brought home the kissing Dutch people lawn statues for me! I was pretty eager to get them re-done and on to the porch ASAP.

A fresh coat of spray paint (what? I couldn't do a project without spray painting SOMETHING!) and new fabric on the seats and they are looking pretty sharp if I do say so myself.

We also bought some new cushions for the patio furniture we bought last year at a garage sale. While we loved the vintage 50's vinyl cushions in mint condition, they just weren't the right style for our house. And this was no easy task. Let's just say it involved us having to go to not one...not two...not three...but FOUR Targets in order to get all of the ones we needed.  Not our greatest day. But worth it in the end because now we have a pretty nice place to hang out.

I LOVE how nice it looks in the evening. Unfortunately the camera isn't great at taking pictures in dim light, so the pictures aren't as crisp as I would like, but you get the general idea:

Pay no attention to the stumpy tailed cat lounging on the floor....

Of course there are a few Hollander touches:

Another one of Lance's garage sale presents.....

And he got himself a pair of wooden shoes to match mine. He was pretty excited to find a pair that actually fit his giant  Dutch feet.

Just about everything in the room came from auctions, garage sales, antique malls, and thrift stores. Even the cat on the floor came from the Humane Society :)

We have a few more furniture projects I will post pictures of soon, and stay tuned for updates on the Bad Santa-blocking stockade!
